Elon Musk’s SpaceX has proven to be a revolutionary force in the world of space exploration and space technology. The company had been waiting for long to get a license to launch their latest rocket, the Falcon Heavy. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has finally approved the launch of this rocket and it will embark for its mission on the 6th of February.
The rocket, which weighs in at 140,660 pounds will launch on Tuesday, the 6th of February. The Falcon Heavy is going to be the most powerful rocket launch in the US since the Saturn V was launched in 1974. SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy features a three-core rocket which comes with 27 engines – which is more than any rocket, ever! The combined force of these 27 engines will provide the Falcon Heavy a thrust of 5 Million Pounds.
Thanks to this massive thrust, the Falcon Heavy can carry as much as 140,000 pounds of cargo to the lower earth orbit. The Falcon Heavy can carry twice the load as compared to any other rocket at the moment. While NASA is busy working on sending humans on moon yet again, which is a congress backed initiative, SpaceX continues to redefine space vehicles!
Interestingly, SpaceX has claimed that the Falcon Heavy will send two tourists to moon in the near future! The rocket is all set to launch on the 6th of February – the current expectations are that two of it’s boosters will come back to Cape Canaveral and the central booster will land on a drone ship.
SpaceX has been working on heavy rockets since quite some time now. While they have conducted several launches and landings successfully, there are a few challenges with the Falcon Heavy – primarily the fact that it has three boosters which need to land in coordination and not collide. It will be interesting to see how the Falcon Heavy performs on launch! Stay tuned with us for more updates on the launch!
