NASA’s asteroid trackers noted that a massive asteroid double the size of the Pyramid of Giza would pass the Earth Today. Moreover, NASA has already planned how to get rid of it.
What is the diameter of the Asteroid?
NASA reported that the space rock is two times bigger than the Great Pyramid of Giza. If such massive rock collides into Earth, then it can destroy the entire planet. The diameter of space rock is up to 120 meters. Besides, NASA asteroid tracker has recorded the travelling time of the asteroid.

It is traveling at 42,882 miles per hour, which means 19.17 kilometers per second. Also, the space rock is named 2019 OD. According to NASA’s research, it will skim past our planet at a minimum distance of 219,748 miles. However, the range might sound like a long way from earth, but it will be closer than the moon.
2019 OD is one of the three asteroids passing Earth
According to NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS), 2019 OD is one of the three other asteroids passing the Earth tomorrow. Apart from that, 2019 OE is the smallest asteroid which will surpass 601,917 miles away from the Earth. Also, 2015 HM10 will skim past at a distance of 2,914,043 miles. The diameter of this asteroid is up to 110 meters.
Luckily, NASA reported that there is no known asteroid spotted which might impact the Earth in the next 100 years. However, NASA chief Jim Bridenstine has warned everyone that an asteroid might crash into the Earth if we don’t work together to protect our planet.
Furthermore, he added that people have to understand that it’s neither about Hollywood nor movies. He wanted to convey that Earth is the only planet which has a sustainable environment. We should know how to protect it before it is too late.
Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART)
NASA is currently working on its plan to destroy the space rocks off course by laughing a spacecraft to smash into it. The DART’s main motive is to deflect asteroids that may collide with Earth in the coming future. Moreover, NASA is aiming to send the spacecraft on June 2021 to crash into a space rock Didymoon in October 2022.
