Death is inevitable, yet every time a loved one is snatched away we can’t hold back our tears. Roky Erickson the founding member of The 13 Floor Elevators and the legendary psychedelic musician left his earthly abode on 31st May 2019 at the age of 71.

Roky Erickson was born on 15th June 1947 in Texas and was interested in music from his childhood. Playing the piano at the tender age of 5 and playing the guitar at the young age of 10. Music ran like blood in his veins.

Mikel Erickson announced his death in a public Facebook post.

My brother Roky passed away peaceably today. Please allow us time. Music and laughter forever,”

he wrote.

However, his brother did not provide his fans with the cause of his death. Erickson management’s official statement confirmed that he died in Austin, but it too did not provide any other detail.

Erickson’s life was no cakewalk, he faced an innumerable amount of struggle yet was always persistent and patient. He co-founded the best rock and roll band in Texas known as the 13th Floor Elevators in 1960.

His early life: Details

In his early 20s, he began displaying symptoms of schizophrenia. His disease broke the band apart. However, every time life pushed him down he refused to on the ground. He recorded a total of six tracks in 1970 from his 1999 album while he was restricted to the Austin State Hospital.

A new band named Bleib Alien (also known as Erickson and the Aliens) was created by him in the year 1974 and 1995 witnessed his return to music again.

He started doing live concerts and was back on stage. Erickson released a new album in 2010 and toured Australia and New Zealand in the year 2012.
