After a few delays finally the live-action Akira movie is going to release on May 2021. The movie is directed by the Marvel Thor Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. The live-action movie Akira is based on the popular manga and anime film of Katsuhiro Otomo.
Akira Movie Release Date
According, to the Hollywood Reporter the movie will be released on 21st May 2021. This is the same date as the release date of John Wick: Chapter 4. The director Taika Waititi has used the original Akira manga as the source material for the movie rather than the anime version of the series.

The shooting of the Akira movie will begin on 15th July 2019. Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira manga gained immense popularity in the year 1988 with the film that fans still love. The live-action movie Akira is focused to bring the anime world to the Western audience.

The movie will release on 21st May 2021
However, the director Taika Waititi has confirmed that the live-action Akira is not the remake of the previous movie. Rather it is inspired by the original books.

The announcement of this project was made in 2017. Taika Waititi is the same person behind the amazing scenes of Thor: Ragnarok. The movie became a great hit.
