NASA has made yet another mind-boggling discovery. Mars had been a hot topic of conversation for a really long period of time. The new discovery of an abundance of methane gas has once again brought it in the spotlight. The Curiosity Rover has discovered Methane on Mars.
Curiosity rover found abundance of methane gas
Scientist of NASA have claimed that they have discovered huge quantity of methane gas on the Red Planet. Indicating high probability of life on Mars. The Curiosity rover of NASA agency made the discovery on Wednesday as reported by the New York Times.
Ashwin R Vasavada, a project scientist of the mission said in an email that a follow-up experiment has been set-up sue to the surprising results they got. There are still chances that the gas might have been produced by geological processes.
NASA's Curiosity rover on Mars has detected high amounts of methane in the air.
Methane is typically produced by living organisms; indicating a possibility of there being life on Mars.

Most of it could have been generated by micro-organisms named as methanogens. Some of them are found living in the guts of mammals of certain kinds. However, the missions director has advised to take caution regarding this matter.
Source of the gas is uncertain for now
Thomas Zurbuchen, who owns the post of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate asked his fellow scientist to take caution. Thomas tweeted
While increased methane levels measured by Mars Curiosity are exciting, as possible indicators for life, it’s important to remember this is an early science result. To maintain scientific integrity, the science team will continue to analyse the data before confirming results.”

It is not necessary that the gas is a sure sign of life. The Methane gas detected might simply be the ancient gas captured in the planet. Which is now finding its way out through the cracks present on the surface.
According to latest measurement there is 21 parts per billion of methane present in Mars air. NASA described the gas “an early science result” in a statement. A NASA spokesman said
To maintain scientific integrity, the project science team will continue to analyse the data before confirming results.”
