Jon Jones is a lucky enough to have escaped Las Vegas fight with his Heavyweight Championship. The Saturday night event of UFC 239 was an interesting match. Jones was unable to handle the pace of the Brazilian Thiago Santos but took razor-thin split decision. He was finally able to retain the title after the fight.
UFC 239: Jon Jones vs Thiago Santos
Two judges were scoring the fight between Santos and Jones, at the end of the bout the score was 48-47. This has happened for the first time in Jones career that an opponent has won a match in others judge scorecard. Jones was quite judicious and tentative with his offences. Santos was full of pace as he shot some hard calf kicks but hurt his knee in the second round.
But most of the times it was clear that Santos was a better fighter. Jones did a good work on Santos legs and midsection with powerful kicks but the third round could have gone either way if it would have been without controversy.
When the fight ended both of them needed help for walking out of the cage as they had injured legs. Everyone was wondering about the next rematch that when it will take place. Santos wasn’t robbed for the points he did score the fight for the champion, 48-47. It does seem like he has to fight again with Santos to get the deal settled.
