Big Little Lies season 2 ended this Sunday. And we all kind of got our closures with the Monterey Five revealing their biggest little lie. Or did we? The most important question with the end of season 2 was very obvious. What happens now?
We know that enough demand from the audience made Big Little Lies season 2 possible after Big Little Lies season 1. But could the same happen for Big Little Lies season 3 too? In a recent interview, Nicole Kidman said:
I think we would love to do a season three because there is certainly ideas.
But we would not do it without all of the same people involved…even the kids.”
Even though fans want can’t seem to get enough and want another season, the makers might not do it this time. HBO’s Preside Casey Bloys turned down the idea to another season of Big Little Lies in an interview. He told TVLine in an interview :
I love this group of people—I would do anything with them. But the reality is, they are some of the busiest actresses working in Hollywood.
We have deals with some of them—Nicole is doing her next show [The Undoing] with us. I just think it’s not realistic
Look, if they all came to me and said, ‘We worked out all of our schedules!’—then sure. But I just don’t think it’s realistic.”
It does make sense when he says it this way. The show was a big hit because it had few of the biggest actresses of Hollywood. Getting them to work on another season would be a huge commitment that may not be ready for.
The crew members were saying a lot of things at the premiere in May. The executive producer Reese Witherspoon said “I don’t know [if it could happen]. I never say never. You don’t know. And [season two] was a surprise.” The executive producer David E. Kelley was more in favour of leaving things at season 2.
Whatever the result may be, we know we won’t be disappointed. Season 2 ends on a satisfactory note and we won’t mind if it stays like that. At the same time, we won’t complain if there’s another season.
